Cherries originated in Turkey where they have been cultivated for more than 2,000 years. Cherry blossom heralds the Spring, especially in Japan where they hold picnics and yozakura (night viewings) to enjoy the spectacle. One legend is that Sakura (cherry blossom) was a pure-hearted woman who merged with a tree to bring beauty to a barren world.

Cherries are a good source of vitamin C, B2, B5 and B6 as well as copper, potassium, magnesium and manganese. They also contains vitamins K and B1 and phosphorous and iron.
